The Federation was registered as a corporate body on 18th August 1960 under the name; Society of Employers. It was later changed to Federation of Uganda Employers on 17th August 1961 under the Trustees Incorporation Act 1939, Cap 126 Laws of Uganda.

The first Trustees were Mr. Lionel Lumley Brown, Regional Representative East African Railways and Harbors, Mr. Charles Henry Rowe, General Manager Uganda Company (Africa) Ltd, and Mr. Alfred Edward Pugsley, Managing Director, Kilembe Mines Ltd.

These were replaced by Mr. Aloysius K Ssemmanda, Chairman Multitech Busines School, Mr Mayur Madhivani, Director Kakira Sugar Ltd and Mr. Mohammed Alibhai, Managing Director, Tight Security in 2014.

The Trustees have an oversight role over the property of the organization as spelt out in Article 7 E of the FUE constitution.

Today, Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) is the premier Employers’ organization in Uganda with diverse membership cutting across private and public sectors, profit and non-profit organizations, individual organizations and sectorial associations.

It is the voice of Employers on social and economic issues in Uganda.
