FUE participates in the Occupational Safety and Health day

Federation of Uganda Employers joined the rest of the world to commemorate the World day for Safety and Health, which is celebrated every year on the 28th/April. This year’s celebrations were conducted under the theme; Safety and Health and the Future of Work: Combating Vulnerability of the Youth.

The celebrations were held at KCCA – UMA Grounds in addition to OSH exhibition where 22 companies featured, FUE inclusive. The state minister for Youths and Children Affairs, Mrs. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi was the guest of honour. She was joined by key dignitaries and the public in attendance. The tripartite was well represented. The Executive Director of FUE, Mr. Douglas Opio delivered his speech on behalf of Employers.

In his speech, he noted that, it’s no secret that indeed the future of work lies in the hands of the Youth. In Uganda, the youths represent the biggest proportion of our population.

He further appreciated the role government has played in ensuring that safety and health is observed at all workplaces.

He also emphasized that worker participation is also essential in order to implement OSH solutions at an enterprise level effectively.

In his concluding remarks, he noted that the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an important and appropriate occasion to reflect on the importance of occupational safety and health. It is an opportunity for us to reaffirm our commitment to this cause – to raise OSH standards. He urged Employers to have exemplary Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) performance to ensure the protection of all people affected by work activities.
